The new 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 5 will be officially released in Jan 2012 at Detroit Auto Show. The new ActiveHybrid will be packed with an engine for generating 335 hp of power with an “e-boost” feature, which inturn increases the power of acceleration. The manufacturer has announced that this car would be available in US cities from 2012 spring.
Even now, the new ActiveHybrid 5 upholds significant green creed; with the help of the electric power the driver can drive the car at an average speed of 22 mph for almost 2 ½ miles. There is also a freewheeling method, which decouples the engine and shuts it at speeds up to 100 mph.
The new ActiveHybrid 5 was provoked in October in Germany, at the launch of the next generation of 3 series models. The manufacturer placed the car on a top level of the auditorium, which offered a glimpse of the forthcoming hybrid to the journalists.
Lan Robertson, board member for BMW, said “As you can see, the car is very close to production.”
Some portion of the trunk is used to store the lithium ion battery pack; the manufacturers have organized the control in such a way that the battery gets recharged in the process of braking. This electric motor has the power to deliver 55 hp of power, and can also give some extra power while accelerating. The electric motor is paired to a 2L 6-cylinder inline engine, coupled to an 8-speed gear shift. As a surprise, the 535i model also comprises of the same engine as that of ActiveHybrid 5.
All the above engine features allow the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 5.7 seconds, which is same as that of 535i with RWD system. The manufacturer has included another good option named “Eco Pro” using which the driver can run the car with electricity power as much as possible.
The hybrid spools on standard 5-series reinforcements with adaptable curbing settings and offers 18” alloy wheels. It also has an auto start/stop option. This car is a part of electric car in their collection, which is powered by all the hybrid features of 3 and 7 series.
As of now, the manufacturer is also financing their Project I, an all-electric scheme, which will totally work as a separate brand in their lineup. So, the users can also enjoy and take a look at the new i3 and i8 models along with ActiveHybrid 5.
